In our community, we are very fortunate to have a long-standing commitment to the Take Back Your Meds project.  During business hours, you can drop your expired and unused prescription medications in drop boxes located at Sammamish City Hall, the Issaquah Police Department* and Newcastle City Hall.*  In addition, King County adopted a Take Back Your Meds Program in 2015, which is being widely implemented.  Drop boxes are now available at local grocery stores and pharmacies.  Here is a helpful link to drop box location information: https://kingcountysecuremedicinereturn.org/.

Clearing your medicine cabinet of expired and unused prescription drugs is an important strategy for reducing child accidental poisonings and teen prescription drug abuse, as well as cutting the links between prescription drug abuse and heroin addiction.

Sometime during the coming week (it doesn’t need to be Saturday!) please check your home and drop any no-longer-necessary drugs into one of the many local drop boxes.  Your community will appreciate it!

*The Issaquah and Newcastle drop boxes were provided by Influence the Choice – Drug Prevention Alliance for Youth, through its federal Drug Free Community grant.
