The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition.  Designed to enhance rather than replace a quality arts education, the national PTA® Reflections Program provides opportunities for students, preschool through 12 grade, to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Since 1969, the PTA Reflections Program has inspired millions of students across the nation to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork.

The 2017-2018 Theme is "WITHIN REACH".

Deadline: Friday, November 3rd.

The theme this year is "WITHIN REACH"

Liberty High Students can enter a total of up to 3 pieces of artwork in any of the following 6 categories:
Visual Arts
Film Production
Dance Choreography
Music Composition

For more information please visit:

3D Art- District and State will accept 3D art within your Visual Arts category as stated in the guidelines: no physical pieces but 3 photos of various angles (300 dpi or higher) mounted on a sturdy, rigid material.  These pieces need to be processed just like the 2D Visual Arts entries.  It is up to you if you accept the actual 3D art to store and judge within your program.  If you have 3D art that will move up to District, then you can follow the guidelines for District/State requirements.

2D Art- Dimensions have been standardized with National: 24”x 30” x 1/2” (not 3/8”).  Still no framed canvas please.

Photography- A single photograph, smallest 3” x 5”, largest 8” x 10” with matting not to exceed 11" x 14”.  Multiple photos (collage) or any text make the photo an automatic Visual Arts entry.

Literature- Not to exceed 2,000 words and please make 2 copies (one for judging, one for display).  Must be in a resealable manila envelope (metal clasp) with entry forms in a page protector taped to the outside.  No bound copies (including staples). These submissions may not be returned to the artists.

Music Composition, Film, Dance Choreography- all must be not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB in file size and be on a DVD or USB.  Must be in a resealable manila envelope (metal clasp) with entry forms in a page protector taped to the outside.  These submissions may not be returned to the artists.

Number of Student entries- The State will only accept one entry per category per student.  This means that an artist could conceivably do 6 entries, one in each category (2D and 3D are still one Visual Arts category).  Our District has historically accepted 3 entries per student in any category (i.e.- 3 photography or 2 Visual arts and 1 Literature).

Number of Finalists to District- District will accept 12 entries as a base amount regardless of participation, 15 entries with 75+, 18 entries with 100+.  These numbers are entries, not artists.

The National PTA special artist division is an option for students with a disability as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act(ADA). Generally, rules and guidelines within the special artists division are intended to ensure accessibility to the National PTA Reflections® program and are modeled after the guidelines outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Complete details are included in the 17-18 Special Artist Rules.
